One of the most authentic and arts heritage in Asia comes from Jepara City, one of small cultural city on Indonesia. Based on historical stories, Jepara carving has existed since the time of Majapahit Kingdom (this is about 800 years ago before Indonesia became a country).
At that time there is an artist who was asked to paint the body and face in the media empress king or carve wood. Apparently the painting on wood is very similar to the original form of the empress. Benjarong also reflected of hand painted china porcelain which is painted in Thailand.
